Danish inventors have created 360 degree 3 dimensional moving visuals by using four projectors. Cheoptics360 can be used indoors or outdoors and to us at MediaSoon it clearly has extensive advertising and event marketing applications. The creators claim it will
“move the boundaries for visual communications in public places”.
Developed by viZoo, Cheoptics uses normal film content and computer generated material. A series of mirrors and reflective surfaces work together to make things appear to hover in mid-air.
Viewers see floating video images which can be viewed 360 degrees around, creating an entirely new spatial 3D experience.
viZoo’s Peter Simonsen tells us:
“Cheoptics360 makes it possible to blend fiction and reality in hitherto unprecedented ways. It opens up a world of possibilities for using the medium in films, commercials, and various other types of presentations.”
The hardware comprises a four-sided pyramid manufactured of transparent material that the audience can see through from each side. Inside the pyramid chamber, viewers can see objects that seem to be freely floating video images and computer graphics. This is done through surface mirroring and reflections. The pyramid itself is used as a kind of prism that assembles light from four video projections into a solid image.
As Simonsen explains:
“We simply use physical space to create a three dimensional feeling of reality as though the object was actually present in the space. In future, using this technique physical space itself will create 3D depth.”
Kasper Hammer Nielsen from collaborators and product marketers Ramboll has a vision. He thinks this is a medium that will occupy a major part of urban space, fusing architecture with media channels:
“I foresee a type of building where Cheoptics360 XL is an integrated part, eg, of a shop, and functions as a living “display window”, where people are part of the virtual experience.”
