Hey! Nielsen social network collects popular entertainment data

Nielsen has gone into public beta with its Hey! Nielsen network, an online social network site for movie, tv and music fans who want the media conglomerates to hear what they think. WOM specialists Affinitive helped develop the concept.

Karen Watson, Senior Vice President of Communications at Nielsen, tells us:

“Hey! Nielsen gives lovers of pop culture an opportunity to sound off online and to make their voices heard by decision-makers. If you’re passionate about any aspect of the entertainment world, you will find like-minded consumers on Hey! Nielsen. We hope this will be a fun place to share opinions and discuss your favorite shows, movies and music. And because we will be providing our clients with insights from Hey! Nielsen members, joining the network is a way to let the entertainment industry know what you think.”

Members of the network will be able to rate music, tv and movies and give their opinions. Systems of profiles and recommendations will build groups of like minded users and the figures will be plugged together to give a Hey! Nielsen score which estimates the buzz on a particular entertainment property. The score is a combination of Hey! Nielsen user factors and other ratings collected by Nielsen like the Billboard Top 100 charts.
