Fujitsu has produced a holder for its flexible e-paper innovation and have named it the Flepia. The e-paper requires no power to run - power is only used when the display is changed.
The e-paper holders have charge for up to a maximum 50 hour’s use, although it’s not clear why there would be a maximum if no power is needed to display a static page. Available in A4 and A5 formats, they are very light - 480 or 320 grammes depending on the size and are only 12mm thick. But you’ll need a heavier and thicker wallet to buy one - over £6,000 for the small one and £10,000 for the big one.
Fujitsu are initially targeting point of purchase and advertising applications. Selling in packs of 10, the portable information terminals are designed to be installed in store environments and advertising opportunities like transport.
The unit comes with an SD memory card reader and it could contain 1 year’s worth of newspaper copy or 5,000 books.
