In2TV, the IPTV collaboration between Warner Bros. and AOL has added two new channels. One is Looney Tunes, showing many cartoons that are appearing on the Web for the first time. The other is Rock ‘n Flix, showing artists from hit Warner Bros. films. And they are all free to view.
Hanna-Barbera animated shows including “The Jetsons,” “The Flintstones,” and “Top Cat” are new to their Animation Channel. The Looney Tunes Channel has 100 animated shorts from 1936 to 1964, including the first screen appearances of Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, and Daffy Duck. There’s also MediaSoon favourite Pepe Le Pew, the French skunk that chases black and white female cats.
Fred McIntyre, Senior Vice President AOL Video tells us:
“Clearly, the Internet is where today’s entertainment fans enjoy watching some of their favorite TV shows, and In2TV.com is making great strides in catering to this audience. In a short amount of time, In2TV.com has doubled the amount of programming available to consumers, while also focusing on unique programs such as Rock ‘n Flix and Looney Tunes which are often difficult to find on TV.”
The Rock ‘n Flix Channel has selections ranging from Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino and Frankie Avalon in 1958’s “Jamboree,” to Willie Nelson in “Honeysuckle Rose” and Prince in “Purple Rain.” Other highlights include Jimi Hendrix performing “Hey Joe” and “Purple Haze” Run-DMC
and Kurtis Blow in “Krush Groove” and five tracks from Led Zeppelin’s “The Song Remains The Same” which documents the band’s 1973 Madison Square Garden performance.
Until now, much of this material was only available on pricey import DVD’s. Slowly but surely, all back catalogue video is going on-line. IPTV is the future. The future of the web is video. And much of it will be advertising supported.
